Nominate us for the Family Friendly Museum Award
Nominations are now open for the Kids in Museums Family Friendly Museum Award 2019, and we're thrilled that the Fitzwilliam Museum along with the Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences and Museum of Zoology have been shortlisted for the award.
Charity Kids in Museums awards the prize annually to one museum, gallery, historic home or heritage site in the UK that goes the extra mile to provide a great experience for families. The prestigious award is now in its 14th year.
This is a brilliant opportunity for us to shout about what we are doing for families at The Fitzwilliam Museum. Families are always welcome and activities and free resources are available to help people of all ages to explore together, from baby play mats to teen trails, story packs to popular ‘Fitz Kits’. Our expert educators and committed volunteers provide a range of programmes, including our free family drop-in, as well as larger scale events such as Twilight at the Museums and Family Art Week, which we run with our fellow University of Cambridge Museums. Bookable workshops also enable children and young people from 0-18 to get creative in our gallery spaces and dedicated art studio. View a full-list of our upcoming events.
“We really loved the baby mat – Anwen is 8 months and was fascinated by the shapes and materials and lost herself playing. I got to enjoy some art! (and a cup of tea - priceless)” Mum, 10 April 2019
If you would like to support us and share why you think The Fitzwilliam Museum is great for families, please nominate us on the Kids in Museums website.
The deadline for nominations is noon on 31 May 2019.
In June an expert panel will whittle down the nominations to a shortlist. Undercover family judges will then visit each shortlisted museum and assess them on how well they meet the Kids in Museums Manifesto. The winner will be revealed at an awards ceremony in October.
